Eric continued: " I 've only had a professionl licence for three months, and it's fantastic to win the East Anglian Derby at Yarmouth, if you had said to me at the start, that i would be in a final, i wouldn't of believed you! Training greyhounds is a hobby for me, which is shared with my wife and daughter, but i take it very seriously. We only have a dozen open race dogs, and get a great buzz out of being involved in big events. Blackrose mars has been absolutely brilliant for me, he was involved in the Coventry Summer Derby final a few weeks ago, in which he peeked in the semi finals really, this time he's peeked in the final and got it right, as soon as i saw him clear from the traps, I knew he had the race bagged, especially with all the trouble going on behind him with some of the other runners".

The Newmarket trainer was already on a high from earlier in the evening, when Blackrose Moon took the spoils in the Derby Invitation race, but all eyes were on Blackrose Mars as he tasted big race glory. A good break from the two lid, left him clear as Black Taxi and Blonde Buster clashed, hampering trouble at the first turn, and Blackrose Mars was away, stretching the field down the back straight and not putting a foot wrong and clocking 27.71 over the 462m trip, and scooping the £12,000 prize money and Silver trophy.
Peterborough trainer David Pruhs's Primitive Way finished second place and John Mullins Blonde Buster trailing home for third.

It had also been a great night for many other trainers, Mildenhall's Peter Witchell who trains Beardys Robbie broke the 277m track record in the Kronenbourg Sprint Grand Final, clocking 16.46, knocking twinned track record holders Respect in 2000 clocking 16.50 and Against the Lead in 2006 clocking 16.50. The 659m track record was also broke by Masterpiece trained by John Millard of Reading, his time of 40.77, knocks the 1988 track record holder Big City time off the history list.

Many local trainers scooped first prizes during the night of open events, and a stunning performer in the making was Movealong Blue trained in Caister by Irene Barnard, he won the Derby Puppy open, and tripping a time of 28.02 is sure to go on to much bigger prize fortunes as he didnt find things tough in the company he had here.
