In the 1960’s the legendary Joe Booth was the dominant trainer. 1965 saw Joe Booth with three runners in the nineteenth running of the final, the result had to be sorted by the Judge calling on the photo finish camera, the first three over the line were a short head apart. The winner, Bar One, running from trap six, was the 11/10 favourite, with the Stadium Bookmakers, the second Sugar, trap one, was returned 5/4, third Chandelier, trap four, was the outsider at 16/1, fourth place, just one and a quarter lengths behind, Crusader, trap two, returned 10/1. Then running on a grass track, the winning time of 28.92 seconds, shows how much the greyhounds have improved on the current sand tracks.
