GREYHOUND RACING: The williamhill.co.uk 49th TV TROPHY FINAL

 GRAND FINAL – TUESDAY 5th JUNE 2007

WINNER £6,000 plus Trophy and Presentation Jacket,

Runner Up £1000, Third £500, Other Finalists £300 Each

Trap 1             Wise Susie                   Trainer David Smith                  Henlow

Wise Susie last raced with Owner Trainer Michael Hogan at Mullingar in Eire on April 7th, then travelled over to join David Smith in England. Her debut was when taking the £225 Virgin Trains Marathon winners prize, at Walthamstow on May 3rd. Wise Susie then switched to Yarmouth for the £150 William Hill TV Trophy Trial Stakes, winning her second one. A prolific winner in races from 700 to over 1000 yards, Wise Susie is an established `staying star` in Eire as her 2000 Euro third placing, in the Ted Hegarty Marathon Final at Harolds Cross indicates. Through to  the final on her first attempt in England, expect her English reputation to rise soon.

Trap 2              Spiridon Louis              Trainer Lorraine Sams  Unattached

You can’t ask more of an open race greyhound than to reach finals, Spiridon Louis has won two, The Peterborough Cesarawitch in 2006 and in April run unbeaten through The Coral Regency at Hove. Any one lucky enough to have witnessed the TV Trophy Trial Stakes, when Spiridon Louis set the new Track Record, will never forget it, the John Mullins trained Blonde Pearl set off at enormous early, recording 27.95 for 462 metres, Spiridon Louis was tucked in perfectly behind `Pearl`, come the 7th bend `Louis` took up the running and powered away, the whole race was breathtaking.

Tonight’s final is the icing on the cake for `Louis` race fans, makes you proud to be British.

Trap 3              Cash For Kate            Trainer Brian Clemenson                       Hove

Cash For Kate had her first experience of marathon racing in December at Harolds Cross, winning a Heat of the Ted Hegarty Marathon. Knocked out of the competition in the next round, she came over from Eire to join Brian Clemenson’s kennel. Cash For Kate came into the First Round of the TV Trophy with a run of five successive marathon wins, at four different racecourses, netting over £2000 in prize money.  Cash For Kate extended her string of wins to six when dominating her heat of the TV Trophy and now lines up in her first major Final in England, as third favourite in the betting.

Trap 4              Confident Foe              Trainer Alan Stevens                 Unattached

Confident Foe’s Irish form is, ran four, won three. One of the wins was a 750 yard race for novices at Tralee. Qualifying for English racing at Walthamstow, Confident Foe soon made her mark over 640 metres, then moved up to longer distances, where she has remained `in the frame`. In January Confident Foe won her heat and the £2500 Winners prize, for the Pepsi Marathon at Walthamstow, she has also won at Romford and Wimbledon. A model of consistency, Confident Foe is still young enough to find that `little bit of extra` needed to win a major final.

Trap 5              Head Iton Jordan          Trainer Daniel Talbot                Unattached

Head Iton Jordan came into the TV Trophy slightly ahead of Spiridon Louis in the anti-post betting, Louis’ Yarmouth track record run has slightly reversed the betting for the Final. `Jordan` caused an audible gasp in the Stadium Bookmaker betting ring when she hesitated momentarily down the back straight, anticipating the trip. Yarmouth is the ninth racecourse `Jordan` has featured at, a lesser stayer would never have got back to qualify. The William Hill TV Trophy runner up at Belle Vue last year, if the value is there, strongly consider Head Iton Jordan to go one better at Yarmouth this year.

Trap 6              Mitzie                           Trainer Mick Puzey                  Walthamstow

The youngest runner in the final, Mitzie only started her long distance career when finishing second in a graded marathon at Walthamstow, where, ten days later, she went on to take the £500 winners prize for the Ladbrokes.com Novice Marathon Open. A trip to Hall Green in March and a move back to 645 metres, Mitzie qualified for the second round of the Bet Direct Prestige. Returning to `base` she was successfully kept to the 640 metre trip, to win her Heat and the £2500 to the Winner Final, of the NGRC Stewards Cup. Mitzie won her William Hill TV Trophy Trial Stakes and followed up with a Heat win.
